Modupe Muyide: De Classique Fashion

Modupe Muyide is CEO of De Classique Fashion. She is also a graduate of Nutrition and Dietetics from Obafemi Awolowo University. After her graduation and while actively seeking paid employment, she saw the KEC Graduate Internship Programme (GIP) opportunity, applied for it and was one of the successful candidates chosen out of over 200 applicants.
Modupe recalls Mr. Adebayo Adegun’s (the Personal Coach/Career Counsellor for GIP) definition of success as “being happy, satisfied and fulfilled in whatever you do and not necessarily being rich or famous in the society.” This made her reflect on the ‘one thing’ that gave her joy and that was fashion, a passion she had nursed from an early age.
However, Miss Muyide’s major concern was raising the initial capital to start up a fashion business. Hence, she decided that after the Graduate Internship Programme, she would get a job to raise the initial capital for her business.  Fortunately for the now Fashion Entrepreneur, this thought was debunked by Ms. Maria Glover during a one-to-one counselling session. Ms. Glover who is the Executive Secretary of the Knowledge Exchange Centre advised her that the perfect time to start building her fashion business was now.
Armed with this advice and her new knowledge gained during the 4 intensive months of the Graduate Internship Programme, Modupe decided to pursue her dream in fashion. She borrowed from her savings to enrol at Ceci Fashion Home to gain practical skills in fashion. She recalls that there were times she could not afford to pay her transportation for the training and had to walk for miles. Today, Miss Modupe Muyide is happy she owns her own fashion house De Classique Fashion, that make clothing for both men and women.

Her advice to young people is “Don’t wait for the perfect time before you start actualising your dreams, the perfect time is now. There may be turbulent periods, you may be mocked, laughed at, despised and abandoned but none of these matter. Draw strength from God’s word and He will always be there for you.”
