KEC Announces 2016/17 Scholarship Award

The Centre for Entrepreneurship Knowledge Exchange aka  Knowledge Exchange Centre (KEC) has announced the winner of its scholarship award for the Executive Master in Development Policies and Practices (DPP) at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, University of Geneva, Switzerland. The award which is in its first year, provides full scholarship for the beneficiary to study at this prestigious European institution with a condition that the student’s thesis must be relevant to the vision of the KEC and in alignment with contemporary African developmental agenda, which currently focuses on employment generation and poverty reduction. The award will be presented to the first beneficiary on the 12th of July, 2016 at the KEC Resource Centre.

In instituting the annual award, KEC seeks to fulfill one of the items in its corporate agenda which is to support young, enterprising but disadvantaged Nigerians to acquire skills and knowledge that improves their employability. According to Ms. Maria Glover, the Executive Secretary of the KEC, “one of the reasons the KEC was established is to bridge the skills gap in the labour market through scholarship grants, student internships, active advocacy and lectures, seminars & publications”.

KEC is the corporate social responsibility (CSR) vehicle of the XL Africa Group and the Group’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Charles Nwodo Jr. is the founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of the KEC.

The 2016/17 scholarship award which was announced via various media platforms was opened to participants from English-speaking West African countries. A total of 182 applications from Nigeria were received by the Institute in Geneva, out of which 26 candidates were shortlisted. The Institute selection team headed by Dr. Matteo      Guidotti further shortlisted 4 candidates from the 26. The four finalists presented to KEC were subjected to a screening exercise by a panel of eminent Nigerians comprising Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, Dr. Okey Ikechukwu, both of Thisday Newspapers Editorial Committee and Ms. Obi Obiekwe , then of UBA Group.
